Low-cost psychodrama psychotherapy group for women Kentish Town Community Centre London
This long-term, low-cost psychodrama psychotherapy group is for women (including trans women) and may be of particular interest to those working or involved in the Creative Arts.
A senior trainee psychodrama psychotherapist at the London Centre for Psychodrama, the group will comprise my final placement and the subject of my clinical paper. The names and key identifying features of group members will be protected, and this will be discussed at assessment.
COULD THIS GROUP HELP YOU?
By combining talking and action-based interventions, psychodrama may particularly suit you if there are areas of your life where you wish to make changes as well as moving towards increased self-awareness and understanding.
Those struggling with isolation and loneliness may also find the group setting helpful for personal exploration in a safe space.
There is much discussion as to the lack of safe spaces for women, both ciss and transgendered. Whilst this is a complex theme, the all-female/female-identifying nature of this group may appeal to those who feel such a space lacking in their personal and/or professional lives.
WHAT IS PSYCHODRAMA?
Psychodrama is an “action” method of psychotherapy. As well as talking through problems and challenges, psychodrama therapy groups work in action to warm up to protagonist-centred work. Each week, the group chooses one member to be the “protagonist” of her psychodrama, the other members then taking on roles in the protagonist's life in order to help identify and challenge behaviours and beliefs that need to be addressed for change. The protagonist usually shows the other group members how to play those roles via role reversal and other techniques.
Psychodrama can be a daunting-sounding prospect for many and we will spend a sound number of sessions “warming up” to the method, exploring the techniques and getting to know one-another before engaging in protagonist-centred work.
TIMINGS AND COMMITMENT
The group is likely to run three or four evenings of every month from September 2020 with each session lasting 2-2.5 hours. This is provisionally a Friday but may change depending on the venue. Participants will be notified of the confirmed day, time and duration no later than 1 August 2020.
Participants are expected to commit for a minimum of six months and the group will run for two years with breaks for holidays.
